Evasion

Hiding and/or removing one’s physical body from danger in order to reach a safe place. One may not be able to proceed directly from a hostile encounter to a police station or other safe area, but may instead have to follow a more circuitous route in order to extricate oneself from an unfortunate situation. In this area, the main skills trained in include:

Camouflage, cover, concealment and deception

Selecting an appropriate hiding position

Individual movement techniques (high crawl, low crawl, sniper crawl, 3-5 second rush/run between positions of concealment, fox walk, crouched stalking walk, squatting walk, long-leg creep, ruck marching technique, walking/running on ice, etc.)

Concealed movement (making use of visual “dead space” and shadows created by vegetation, man-made structures and topographical features while also limiting silhouetting oneself)

Negotiating obstacles (cross-training in parkour, climbing and making use of obstacle courses)

Operating in low-light conditions (natural night vision, psychological effects of darkness, use of flashlights, reliance on senses other than sight, etc.)

Room clearing (to detect and avoid threats in urban environments, such as one’s home)

Group movement (fundamentals of patrolling, file formation, travelling, travelling overwatch, bounding, crossing danger areas, etc.)

Communications (signals, codes, etc.)
